Dr. Nneka Chukwurah

imageDr. Chukwurah worked and retired from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, Nigeria as a Deputy Director. She obtained her Masters degree in Malaria Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical, Medicine, London. Her PhD on “Aspects of Malaria Prevention among Pregnant Women” was obtained from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She has obtained various trainings both nationally and internationally. Such trainings include: Malaria control and its control; TBHIV collaborative activities; Tb Infection Control; Influencing, Networking and Partnership training in Chicago, USA. Dr. Chukwurah headed the Malaria Training School in Lagos, Nigeria where she trained Medical Officers, Students from School of Health Technology and other Health professionals on Malaria and its control. She has also delivered lectures on Malaria and its control at different times during World Malaria Day Celebrations.

Dr. Chukwurah has been involved in various malaria researches including community based studies on the use of Insecticide Treated Nets in the control of malaria. These studies were carried out in schools and communities. Other studies involved the use of Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine in the prevention of malaria in pregnancy; KAP studies on malaria including the knowledge on malaria preventive measures in communities. She has presented papers at both International and National conferences and have published some papers on malaria and has also published papers. Presently Dr. Chukwurah is a Deputy Director in the Department of Public Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, Nigeria. She heads the TBHIV Unit in the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme. She trains Health personnel in TBHIV Collaboration and the establishment of Infection Control in Hospitals that have both TB and HIV units. She is involved in programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation. She has participated as an Internal Consultant in the Mid-term evaluation of the National TB Strategic Plan. Dr. Chukwurah has over 25 years’ experience in Public Health. She is a Parasitology Society of Nigeria, member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London and member of Malaria Society of Nigeria.
